Canakkale Gallipoli, Troy and Assos
The Byzantine name for Canakkale was Dardanellia, from which the English name Dardanelles is derived. Çanakkale lies on both sides of the dardanelles. It’s shores touch both the European and the Asian side and connects Marmara Sea to the Aegean Sea. Ferries cross to the northern (European) side of the strait.
Çanakkale also has very beautiful islands named Tenedos (Bozcaada) and Imroz (Gökçeada). These islands are visited by many foreign tourists during the whole year.
